OAKLEY Boomstand

BOOMSTAND PRESCRIPTION EYEWEAR

Style should never whisper, so Oakley BOOMSTAND uses contours of ultra-lightweight titanium to make some noise about originality. It’s a semi-rimless design so there’s no frame edge to obstruct your downward view, and we engineered it with custom hinges called TWIN SHOCK™. Think of the leaf springs on a performance racing machine and you’ll know what inspired us. Titanium alloy optimizes durability and flexibility, so if the frame stems are pulled open a bit beyond their normal position, they just flex right back.

We took advantage of UNOBTAINIUM® components that increase grip with sweat, and we made the nose pads adjustable for a custom fit. As far as style goes, laser engraving gives BOOMSTAND a look that follows no lead but its own. Choose Oakley Authentic Prescription Lenses for the highest optics, available in either Single Vision or PAL (progressive lenses). BOOMSTAND comes with an Oakley collection case.

The latest Oakley breakthrough is a hinge mechanism that comes in two forms: Mono Shock and Twin Shock, developed for Rx eyewear and sunglasses. BOOMSTAND features the TWIN SHOCK hinge. Inspired by pro racing, the structures are similar to leaf springs used for shock absorption. The Mono Shock hinge has a single “tine” (a slender projecting part, like the tines of a fork) that bridges the frame and the ear stem. 

The Twin Shock hinge utilizes two. Here are the key benefits:

Durability. The peerless architecture is sturdier than conventional hinges because no springs are used. Instead, the mechanism is a solid component that takes advantage of a durable yet lightweight alloy of titanium, a premium metal that resists corrosion.

Flexibility. Oakley formulated the alloy to be flexible. When you push an ordinary frame stem even a subtle distance beyond its normal open position, you risk breaking the hinge. Comfort and fit. There is no inward pressure when the frame stems are in their normal open position. Subtle flexibility of the entire frame accommodates a wide range of head sizes.
